Why I chose Birmingham
I came to study at the University of Birmingham because of the strong reputation at the open day. I also had friends who had graduated from the course already and highly rated the lecturers and course content.
In my opinion there is no other course like it in the country regarding sport and physical education.
Why my course stood out to me
The course is unique in its focus on teaching styles and their implementation within PE and schools but also provides a wide scope of knowledge regarding varying issues in sport. The political modules looking at mega events and issues such as doping and crime in sport gave a really wide view of sport in society.
My personal highlight
A personal highlight has been meeting the people on the course. With it being such a small course we have all had the opportunity to get to know each other and the lecturers. This was also supported by the Outdoor and Adventurous activity trip to the lake district in first year, which was a fantastic opportunity and great fun!
Living in Birmingham
Living in Birmingham is great fun. Halls were good but the houses in second and third year are even better. There's an Aldi at the bottom of the road, student perk, and plenty of social spaces. The train stations also make it really easy to get in and out of the main city centre.
Clubs or societies I've been involved in
I've played football and cricket throughout my three years at the University. Both clubs have given me a second family and also a structure to my University life. I have made some true friends for life and enjoyed every minute of it. Representing the University is something I will forever remain proud of and never forget.
My aspirations for the future
Aspirations going forward are to successfully complete my teacher training here at the University and then hopefully become an influential teaching professional in PE. From there I can see myself lecturing. The University has given me the best possible base to achieve this!
My top tips for prospective Birmingham students
My top tip for studying at the University of Birmingham would be to throw yourself into both your studies and the University lifestyle. Try something new, engage in your degree and enjoy meeting new people. It really is what you make it!
