Fitness Trackers

Fitness Tracker 5We are seeking volunteers for a study investigating How useful are wearable fitness trackers for monitoring the quality of exercise in home-based exercise programmes?

What is this study about?

In order to inform future home-based exercise programmes for people with long-term illnesses, such as heart disease, we need to identify measures of heart rate that are both easy to use and accurate.

Who can participate?

Any adult aged 50+who is able to understand English language or has access to a translator.

What is involved?

If you decide to take part in this study, we will invite you to the School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences exercise labaratory.

We will measure your resting heart rate and then ask you to do some exercises including:

  • Walking
  • Some chair-based exercises
  • EITHER Arm cycling which is like pedalling a bike  OR cycling in a bike with your legs .
  • Your heart rate will be measured throughout using a few different devices – a wrist-worn device (FITBIT charge 5), an armband (Polar Verity Sense) and another device that sticks to the skin of your chest (the Actiheart single-lead ECG).
