Dr Shane Balthazaar currently works at the School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences. Shane does research in cardiac physiology, exercise rehabilitation and autonomic control of individuals with spinal cord injury. Shane’s current research focuses on the impact of exercise in the subacute phase of spinal cord injury on the cardiovascular system.

Biography

Dr Shane Balthazaar completed his PhD at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. His dissertation focused on clinical cardiac function and the effects of exercise interventions on the cardiovascular system following spinal cord injury. He is a clinically trained sonographer, having worked at two of the major tertiary teaching hospitals in Western Canada before taking up his current post as a research fellow at Birmingham.
