Committed to widening access

The University of Birmingham has always been committed to widening access, for example with our A2B Scheme which is one of the oldest of its type, Routes to the Professions, and our pre-16 Forward Thinking programme.

Students studying and working on laptopsWe work with 200 schools and 25,000 pupils each year to raise aspiration and encourage them to continues in education despite knowing that many of them will apply to other universities. Our contextual offer scheme makes lower offers to candidates from all over the country meeting the requisite criteria.

UCAS data shows that in 2017 the University of Birmingham made more offers to BME UCAS applicants than any other UK institution. The proportion of the University’s BME UCAS candidates made an offer was higher than in any previous year.

More information about the University’s commitment to widening access can be found in our OFFA agreement.
