Nisha has a clinical background in Audiology, and wide-ranging experience in clinical, teaching and research roles. Nisha moved into Public Health research whilst living in Qatar, where she worked at a global top 20 medical college branch campus, researching obesity and diabetes within the region. Nisha worked at University of Birmingham as part of the Horizon Scanning Centre, where she researched public health sources for intelligence about emerging health technologies and reported to the National Institute of Health Excellence and other NHS policy makers. Nisha formally moved into an academic role at Aston University, as a Lecturer in Health Sciences (Audiology) and was the Public and Global Health Lead for Aston Medical School. During this time Nisha completed her mixed-methods PhD on the topic of hearing, cognition, and social isolation in older adults. More recently, Nisha has moved to the Dubai campus of University of Birmingham as an Assistant Professor in Public Health and Deputy Programme Director. In addition to Nisha’s academic roles, she is the co-lead of the Race Equality Network and chairs the post-graduate student-staff forum meetings for the Dubai campus.

My research interests are centred on the improved quality of life for people living with hearing and communication disorders, and associated comorbidities. I am an applied health researcher within the public health domain and have a particular interest in the social determinants of health. I can use a variety of research methods that are appropriate to the research question. I have experience in systematic reviews, meta-analyses, multiple linear regression analyses, Grounded Theory, and patient and public involvement initiatives. 

Current projects

Patient and Public Involvement Lead for non-clinical and marginalised communities as part of an NIHR funded study developing a Patient Reported Experience Measure to use in Audiology services.
