Elizabeth Ryan is a Senior Research Fellow (Statistician) within the Cancer Research UK Clinical Trials Unit. She is working on an MRC Methodology project that involves researching Bayesian adaptive designs for phase III randomised controlled trials. She is involved in other work promoting the use of Bayesian methods for analysing and interpreting the results of clinical trials. Her research interests include: biostatistics; medical statistics; clinical trial design and analysis; efficient clinical trials methodology, particularly Bayesian adaptive trial design; optimal experimental design; and Bayesian methods.

Qualifications

  • BSc (Hons I) in Mathematics, Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Brisbane, Australia. 2011

Biography

Elizabeth Ryan is a Senior Research Fellow (Statistician) working within the Cancer Research UK Clinical Trials Unit in the Institute of Cancer and Genomic Sciences. She is working on an MRC Methodology project that involves investigating the effects of Bayesian adaptive design methodology on clinical trial design, execution, and conclusions in phase III randomised controlled trials. She also worked on this project for 1 year at the Warwick Clinical Trials Unit at the University of Warwick. She is involved in other work promoting the use of Bayesian methods for analysing and interpreting the results of clinical trials.

Prior to this Elizabeth worked as a clinical trials statistician at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN), King's College London, where she worked on a number of trials in mental health, neuroscience, addictions, chronic medical conditions, and transplantation/surgery. In this role she was responsible for: planning randomised controlled trials by advising on the clinical trial design; designing data collection forms; monitoring the progress of the trial; and analysing and reporting on the study results.

In 2014 she completed a PhD at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Brisbane, Australia in optimal methods for Bayesian experimental design, with a heavy emphasis on designing pharmacokinetic studies.
