Dr Nadir is an interventional cardiologist at Queen Elizabeth Hospital and honorary clinical associate professor at the University of Birmingham. He is also the lead for cardiovascular disease for recently established Birmingham & Solihull Integrated Care System (ICS) as part of devolved NHS. He has particular interest heart valve disease and specialises in replacing or repairing heart valves without open heart surgery using advance catheter-based treatments. He has been instrumental in bringing these highly advanced and novel therapies to Birmingham.

His research interest covers coronary artery disease and valvular heart disease. He enjoys teaching medical students and training future cardiologist. Currently Dr Nadir is investigating impact of catheter-based treatment on patient with valve disease and looking to improve the outcomes from such treatments.

Dr Nadir has published in leading cardiology journals including Circulation, Journal of American College of Cardiology, American Journal of Cardiology and European Journal of Heart Failure amongst others.

Biography

Dr Nadir graduated with first class honours and was awarded ‘best graduate of the year’ title for his primary medical (MBBS) degree. He completed Royal College of Physician’s UK membership in 2006. He then worked along with British Heart Foundation and University of Dundee to undertake clinical research investigating novel methods of identifying silent heart disease between 2008-2011. His clinical cardiology training was in the West Midlands, following which he moved to New York. Whilst in the US he worked at the prestigious Mount Sinai Heart Hospital in Manhattan and received advanced training in highly specialised minimally invasive heart procedures treating patients with complex heart valve conditions including TAVI and MitraClip. He was appointed consultant cardiologist at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in 2017 and subsequently honorary clinical associate professor at University of Birmingham.

Teaching

Actively and passionately teaches medical students, nursing students and junior medical staff.

International medical students across the world have undertaken electives under supervision of Dr Nadir.

Postgraduate supervision

Dr Nadir has supervised cardiology and interventional cardiology fellows from around the world both clinically and mentoring them to write thesis and publish in peer-reviewed journals.
