Ruth Patchett is the Communications, outreach and impact officer for the School of Chemistry.

As well as continuing to develop the schools outreach website “ChemBam”, Ruth will be using outreach grants from the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Alumni Impact Fund to work with school teachers and students, helping them to carry out research-linked activities in the classroom and across various events hosted by the University of Birmingham. 


  • PhD in Chemistry, University of Warwick, 2017
  • MSci in Chemistry (with a year in industry), Imperial College London, 2012


Ruth completed her PhD on the synthesis and characterisation of calix[4]arene complexes with Dr Adrian Chaplin at the Unviersity of Warwick in 2017. She then worked as an Education Coordinator for the Royal Society of Chemistry based at the University of Warwick.

Here, she works on outreach and public engagement drawing links with the world class research taking place at the University of Birmingham and classroom activities in schools
