Contact details

Dhanak Gupta is a Research Fellow in School of Dentistry. She is working on Ultrasurge project funded by EPSRC between Universities of Birmingham, Glasgow, Southampton, Edinburgh and Leeds. Her other research interests are bone cell biology, hard tissue regeneration and biomaterials designing.

Qualifications

PhD in Human Development, University of Nottingham, UK 2017

MSc in Medical Genetics, Newcastle University, UK, 2010

B.Tech in Industrial Biotechnology, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, India, 2009

Biography

Dhanak obtained her engineering degree in 2009 then went on to do an MSc degree in Medical genetics from Newcastle University in the UK. Then she joined as Junior Research Fellow to work on population genetics at University of Jammu in India. After obtaining a scholarship, she completed her PhD focusing on biomaterials and stem cells for bone regeneration in osteoporotic patients. She has worked in industry for some time and then did her post doc in the University of Sheffield at Prof. Gwendolen Reilly’s lab on a British Council Newton Fund project focusing on using fucoidan (derived from brown seaweed) as a bone regenerative and anti-cancer drug.

In March 2019, she joined as a Research Fellow in School of Dentistry and works on the Ultrasurge project funded by EPSRC between Universities of Birmingham, Glasgow, Southampton, Edinburgh and Leeds. This is a five-year project and involves development of a novel bone cutting device enabled by ultrasound. https://www.gla.ac.uk/research/az/ultrasurge/
