Clinical Dental Tutor in Restorative Dentistry and Head of Firm, teaching mainly final year dental students in all aspects of dentistry.

He is a member of the admissions board for the University of Birmingham as a clinical representative to the selection process.

He is also the Clinical lead and owner of Oakville Dental, a respected mainly private dental practice located close to the University of Birmingham in Selly Oak and clinical lead and owner of Sutton Dental Care, a well established and respected practice in Sutton Coldfield. In 2011 he was awarded with a Foundation Training contract at Oakville Dental which he has held since 2011.

He provides teaching to both undergraduate and post-graduate audiences in his main area of interest, which is advanced restorative dentistry.

Since 2017 Hussein has also been working at King’s College London with Professor Banerjee looking at risk assessment tools in the field of minimal intervention dentistry.

Hussein also teaches on the ORE preparation courses and well as teaching surgical techniques on the OMFS preparation course.

Whilst an undergraduate Hussein was chosen to present his elective research work on the study of powered toothbrushes at the International Association for Dental Research conference in Hawaii.

Working in general practice he studied and attained his Diploma at Faculty of General Dental Practice at the Royal College of Surgeons London.

Then in 2006-07 he was appointed Senior House Officer in Oral Maxillofacial Surgery in Lincoln and Boston, attaining his Diploma of Membership to Faculty of Dental Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons London in 2007. Whilst in post he studied the long-term prognosis of resorbable mini plates for the fixation of facial fractures.

Then in 2007 Hussein commenced an MSc Eastman Dental Institute and was appointed Clinical Dental Tutor in Restorative Dentistry at the University of Birmingham. On his return to Birmingham he was also appointed as the resident dentist for Cadburys at Bournville where he spent 3 years.

In 2010 he became Clinical lead and owner of the prestigious Oakville Dental Practice in Selly Oak and later Clinical lead at SDC. He was also promoted to Head of Firm 5th BDS at the University of Birmingham.

Also in 2011, Hussein was appointed as a Foundation Dentist Trainer, by the West Midlands Deanery and provides the hands-on fixed prosthodontic training to postgraduate dentists since 2012. During the same year he was awarded an educational grant to complete studies in Medical Education at the UoB, which he successfully completed and has been awarded the title of Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. During the degree he studied the impact of the change to competency based grading in clinical practice and review of the university curriculums.

Since 2017 he has been working with King’s College London at Guys Hospital with Prof Banerjee in the field of advanced minimal intervention dentistry.
