Alison is Primary Programme Director for the PG Dip Ed Primary/ Early Years ITE course. She has responsibility for the day to day running of the university and school based training programme. She also heads up the science and computing modules on the programme.

Alison joined the School of Education in January 2010. She has a very strong background in early education, having taught for many years in a number of Primary schools across the West Midlands area. As well as working in senior management positions, Alison also had a wider role, supporting teachers to develop their ICT skills.

Alison is a senior fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She is also an external examiner in the specialist field of ITE.

  • Currently completing EdD, researching the use of school dogs in supporting nurture


Alison’s main teaching responsibilities are Teaching science and Teaching Technology Enhanced Learning and computing on the following ITE programmes:

Alison's particular research interests are:

  • The use of school dogs in animal assisted activity (AAA) and animal assisted therapy (AAT) and animal assisted learning (AAL)
  • Technology Enhanced Learning in primary school settings (particularly iPad and Interactive Whiteboard technologies)
  • Using outdoor spaces to support primary science education
