Haydon is an industrial micropalaeontologist with over 35 years experience in the hydrocarbon exploration and production industry. He started as a specialist in Cretaceous foraminifera with ongoing interests in the biostratigraphy of Late Cretaceous sequences throughout North West Europe and North Africa. Subsequently projects have ranged through Carboniferous to Holocene microfaunas. He is a specialist in Chalk field studies and high resolution stratigraphy of chalk reservoirs. Haydon teaches a 20 credit module in Foraminifera on the MSc in Applied & Petroleum Micropalaeontology and supervises project students.

Qualifications

1973 - BSc University of Sheffield

1976 - PhD Plymouth Polytechnic (CNAA): The foraminiferal biostratigraphy of the Late Cretaceous (Coniacian - Mid Santonian) chalk of Southern England.

Teaching

Contributes the foraminifera module to the University MSc course in Applied and Petroleum Micropalaeontology.

Other activities

Haydon is an active member of The Micropalaeontological Society, being a past Chairman and the current Industrial Liaison Officer. He has been keen to see financial support from industry come into micropalaeontology training and was instrumental in establishing the Micropalaeontological Society Educational Trust Fund.

Haydon is currently Vice President of the Geologists’ Association and President elect for 2014. He maintains his interests in local chalk geology by being Chairman of the Hertfordshire Geological Society and Geological Adviser to the Chiltern Society.
