I was born in Malta and graduated with a first-class degree with distinction from The University of Padua, Italy. After lecturing for five years at the Liceo Linguistico Dante Alighieri in Padua, I moved to Canada, Brazil and then the Uk where I obtained a PhD from The University of Birmingham. While in the UK, I continued to consolidate my teaching career, lecturing at undergraduate and post-graduate level in universities across the country.  Apart from teaching English and Italian at The University of Birmingham, I have also taught at The University of Nottingham and Birkbeck College London. I am also currently an Associate Lecturer for The Open University, where I teach an undergraduate interdisciplinary module in the Humanities.

My research expertise is in Modernism and the discourses of subjectivity and dissent at the turn of the twentieth century.  I also have research interests in translation theories and practices, having recently transcribed, translated and edited a 16th century manuscript as part of a British Academy funded project in collaboration with The University of Exeter, The University of Leeds and The University of Malta. Relevant to translation practices is also my translation of Silvia Evangelisti’s Nuns: A History of Convent Life (OUP), for the Italian publishing house Il Mulino.
