Emre Cenker is a lecturer in Mechanical Engineering.

His research focus is laser-based optical diagnostics in reactive flows and nanoparticles. He demonstrated methodologies and novel approaches for quantitative measurements of in-flame soot particles and cavitation analysis. He has extensive experiences of measuring flow and combustion characteristics as well as emissions at high pressure. He is actively expanding his research portfolio into image processing and engine research. His research covers both fundamentals and industrial applications.

Emre worked as a topic organizer in engine combustion network (ECN), spray combustion consortium (SCC), and international laser-induced incandescence (LII) workshops.

  • PhD in Mechanical Engineering, École Centrale Paris and Universität Duisburg-Essen, 2014
  • MSc. in Automotive Engineering, RWTH, Aachen, 2009
  • BSc. in Mechanical Engineering Koç University, Istanbul, 2007

After completing his B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering at Koç University in Istanbul, Emre Cenker moved to Germany to pursue his master with full funding support of German research council. He obtained his M.Sc. in Automotive Engineering at RWTH Aachen. Subsequently he ran an automotive supply company in Germany as the authorized executive officer with full profit and loss responsibility. Completing a year in business sphere, Emre turned back to his academic studies focusing on clean combustion and laser diagnostics with a double doctoral program in Paris funded and hosted by IFP Energies nouvelles. Upon successful completion summa cum laude, Emre obtained his PhD degree from École Centrale Paris and from University of Duisburg-Essen. After three years of postdoctoral research experience at KAUST in Saudi Arabia, Emre joined Sandia National Laboratories in 2017 for his second postdoctoral research. In 2018, Emre started as a faculty at the University of Birmingham.

Emre represented Turkey in Youth 20 France 2011 Summit as the minister of environment. In 2012 Emre has established a non-profit organization in Turkey, Youth Commission for Diplomacy and Collaboration (YCDC) which aims training of youth in global diplomacy. He chaired this association for three years and assumed the G20 Sherpa position for youth outreach group in 2015.
