Richard Turner is a Research Fellow in the computational modelling and materials simulation Research Group, PRISM2, in the School of Metallurgy & Materials.

Richard has performed research in a number of areas including simulation projects of a variety of key industrial processes, including linear and rotary friction welding, electron beam welding, TIG welding, forging and forming and machining.

Richard has used a variety of materials in simulation projects, notably titanium alloys, nickel-based superalloys and steels.

Richard Turner qualified with a BSc in Mathematical Sciences from the University of Birmingham in 2002. After a short break from academia, he gained his Masters in Research (MRes) from the School of Metallurgy and Materials, University of Birmingham in 2006. He began studying for his Engineering Doctorate (EngD) also in the School of Metallurgy and Materials, University of Birmingham in 2006, completing his thesis in 2010, entitled “Linear Friction welding of Ti-6Al-4V: Modelling and Validation”.
