Andy Moya Bedon is a Marie Curie Fellow at the School of Physics and Astronomy.

His main research interests are focussed around stellar structure and evolution, in particular, stellar characterisation. As a Marie Curie Fellow, he is leading the project THOT, devoted to the gathering and up-date of the stellar dating techniques available and the development of a computer facility for stellar aging. Previously, Dr Moya devoted most of his time to the asteroseismic investigation of Main-Sequence stars, having developed a special interest in the characterisation of exoplanet-host stars. Dr Moya has been an active contributor to the asteroseismic program of the CoRoT (France-ESA-others) and Kepler (NASA) missions. He is currently engaged in the stellar science work for NASA's Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) mission, and ESA's Plato and CHEOPS missions. He was also the Principal Investigator(PI) of the space mission project PlanetVision.

Dr Moya has published 78 refereed articles in international journals, 12 of them as first author and 30 as the second/third author, having a total of around 2000 citations. He has supervised two PhDs and four Master Thesis. Throughout his career, Dr Moya has been awarded a number of competitive scholarships, fellowships and contracts from the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science, the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Technology, the prize fellowship Juan de la Cierva and MSCA. He has been an active communicator giving talks and seminars to every kind of audience and attending media related to space missions and astrophysics outreach in general.

Biography

Dr Moya studied physics at the University of Granada and obtained his PhD in Astrophysics at the same University, but the research work was done at the Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía (CSIC) under the supervision of Professor Rafael Garrido and Dr Antonio Claret. The subject of the Ph.D. was the development of a non-adiabatic pulsational code (GraCo) in the context of the preparatory works of the space mission CoRoT.

Dr Moya did post-doctoral stages at the Observatoire of Paris (Meudon) in the context of CoRoT (two years), Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía - CSIC (working for CoRoT, Kepler, and CARMENES, three years), and Centro de Astrobiología (INTA-CSIC) for working at the characterization of pulsating stars harbouring planets and for leading PlanetVision.

Then, Dr Moya worked for two years at a private company, out of science, going back to the track to be the head of the Master in Astronomy and Astrophysics at the Valencian International University, for one year. Two more small post-doc stages at the University of Granada and Centro de Astrobiología (INTA-CSIC) after that and, finally, he was awarded a Marie Curie Fellowship to work for two years at the University of Birmingham in the context of stellar dating and to contribute to the projects TESS, CHEOPS, and Plato.
