Barbara is an Honorary Professor in the School of Social Policy at the University of Birmingham. She carries out research in the areas of adults, communities, mental health, older people and disability. She also focuses on participatory action research and forms of analysis drawn from postmodern feminism.

Biography

Barbara spent thirteen years in the field operating as a social worker, senior social work practitioner, area manager, researcher and regional director before joining the University of Bradford in 1992 where she become Head of the Department of Applied Social Studies. Later she took up positions as Head of the School of Social Work and Associate Dean (Research) at the University of Sydney. She has been on the executive of a large number of professional and third-sector organisations and is on the editorial boards for a number of key journals in the social work/policy studies field.
