Nick Le Mesurier is a Research Fellow at HSMC, working with Deborah Davidson (Senior Fellow HSMC) and Dr Angela Ellis Paine (TSRC) on the Community Hospitals Research Programme. Recently he worked with Jon Glasby and others on a two-year RfPB funded project to interpret and assess older people’s contributions to preventing avoidable hospital admissions. Formerly Research Associate and then Research Fellow at the Department of Psychiatry, University of Birmingham (1995-2006), and Senior Research Officer at the Centre for Ageing and Mental Health, Staffordshire University (2007-2010), and a freelance researcher working with Age UK, Alzheimer’s Society and others.

Nick has wide experience of evaluation research in many different circumstances and with a wide range of organisations, including NHS, Local Authorities, TSOs and media organisations. His general interests are the mental health, wellbeing and independence of older people. He has special interests in the needs of older people in prison, and he undertaken research on this group in prisons across the West Midlands and in Devon. He has published definitive guidelines for working with older prisoners for Age UK and the Independent Monitoring Board.

Nick is a qualitative researcher, and has led seminars on the practical management of qualitative research projects to post-graduate students in the Medical School at University of Birmingham.
