This University has long been recognised for the quality of its teaching and we were proud to be awarded the top grade of ‘TEF Gold’ in the recent national assessment exercise. Yet, as a research-intensive university, we can never stand still. We are always seeking to improve our practice and to learn with and from each other, our students and our colleagues across the sector - nationally and internationally. So, we are delighted to announce our new institute for teaching excellence in higher education.

Higher Education Futures Institute launches at the University of Birmingham

Research-intensive learning

The aim of the Higher Education Futures institute (HEFi) is to support academic staff to deliver effective and innovative teaching throughout their careers. We are a research-intensive institution, and our research-led teaching ensures that our students are engaged in research-intensive learning. This is essential if higher education is to prepare students for their futures.

One institute

HEFi brings into one institute all of our staff development activity, digital education innovation and support, and research on practice. HEFi is internal and external in its remit: we want to share our practices and learn with and from our colleagues elsewhere.
