Your wellbeing is our top priority and we are working on a range of measures to ensure you stay safe, happy and healthy whilst at University. We’re lucky that our campus is a fantastic green space, with plenty of outdoor places to study and socialise, and we’ll be making the most of that during our Welcome events.
- Campus signage is in place to remind all staff, students and visitors to practise social distancing and regular handwashing.
Handwashing facilities will be provided across campus, as well as hand sanitiser in high traffic areas. One-way systems are also in place across buildings where they’re needed.
- We are increasing our cleaning provision on campus to ensure all spaces are hygienic and clean at all times.
Our Cleaning team has been working hard on campus, and we’ll be paying extra attention to busy areas in September. On arrival you will also get a University pack to help you stay safe, including a face covering.
- Anyone who shows symptoms of COVID-19 will be supported to self-isolate and will have swift access to testing in a number of ways, which will be run through the national NHS test and trace programme.
Since the pandemic started, we have been setting up and running a testing facility on campus to support the international fight against the virus. We are currently carrying out 10,000 tests per day on campus as part of our contribution to the international effort to fight coronavirus.
- We are working on a range of scenarios for our campus spaces to make them COVID-secure for our students.
Our teams are working flat out to make sure that campus is ready for teaching, socialising and other activities from September. Our buildings are opening in a phased manner over the summer, with each building assessed carefully and appropriate measures put in place to keep everyone safe before they reopen.
Support for your wellbeing at university
Every School and College at the University has a team of Wellbeing Officers who are available to support your wellbeing and your studies. The teams are all currently working remotely to answer your queries, by e-mail and online appointments. Regular drop-in sessions and in-person appointments will be introduced throughout the first semester when it is safe to do so.
The Mental Health and Wellbeing Team, including our qualified Counsellors and Wellbeing Practitioners, have developed a full online service including online counselling and therapeutic support. This works alongside our extensive self-help and self-care resources and our partnership arrangements with PAUSE (no-waiting interventions) and referrals to the NHS and other national services.
Students with disabilities
- Inclusivity, accessibility, flexibility and understanding are embedded in our approach to learning and teaching.
- If you have a Reasonable Adjustment Plan (RAP) these considerations will continue to be supported.
- If you receive any additional support (for example, as funded by the Disabled Student Allowance) then this will continue. You should contact your support provider to confirm arrangements.
- If you need to declare a disability, or need any specialist advice to start your studies with us, then please contact the Student Disability Service. If you have any particular needs that are not supported by our embedded reasonable adjustments then you can apply for extra help through Disabled Student Allowance. Our team are working remotely at the moment, answering queries and offering 1:1 appointments online.
