Advice and support

24/7 support, all through the year

Our support starts well before you travel to Birmingham, of course. But once you’re here, you’ll find even more help and advice to get you started, and keep you happy in your studies. Here are just a few ways we can help you adapt to life at the University.

Talk to our Wellbeing Officers

Personal problems can sometimes affect your academic work. So whatever you may be going through, be it anxiety, acclimatisation or anything that could affect your studies, our Wellbeing Officers are there to provide practical and emotional support when you need it. Each of our University Schools has one, so don’t hesitate to reach out to yours.

The University Graduate School

If you’re a postgraduate student or postgraduate researcher, there’s lots of support and advice available just for you. Our University Graduate School works closely with other support services across campus to make sure you’re getting the best quality experience possible. It offers a wide range of academic, social and wellbeing activities and opportunities to develop your skills and share your postgraduate work.

Visit our Multi-Faith Chaplaincy

Because we welcome people of all faiths from all around the world, we have our own chaplaincy on campus. It’s an inclusive space for prayer, meditation, relaxation and worship, with lots of events throughout the year. So whatever your faith, whether you’re religious or not, we look forward to welcoming you.

Help with disabilities, health conditions and learning difficulties

If you’ve a disability, long-term mental health condition or specific learning difficulty, we’re here to make life easier from the moment you arrive. From disability drop-ins, to making adjustments for your learning and exams, we’re happy to help with whatever you need, including screening and assessment for specific learning difficulties. We’d encourage you to talk to our team about any conditions or disabilities you might have in advance of arriving.
