Get involved at any level
Ranked in the top 7 of UK university sport, at Birmingham you can choose from over 50 welcoming sports clubs. Dedicated development squads are a great place to socialise and learn new skills - and if you want to raise the stakes, our British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) teams compete in the national university league.
We also have a sports scholarship programme which has supported many national and international students athletes, including hockey players Lily Owsley MBE and Sophie Bray MBE, who won gold in Rio 2016. Our hockey club compete in the National League, and we have a Premier League Squash team who compete on campus.
Socialise and support
Sport at Birmingham isn't just for the players - get behind our teams as a supporter and experience the electric atmosphere on campus that comes with competition. Any Birmingham student will tell you that Wednesday is all about sport – with matches happening in the day and Sports Night in the evening, the social highlight of the week and the perfect opportunity to unwind with your teammates.
Our friendly, recreational Campus Leagues are open to all, and over 2,500 staff and students take part in weekly games throughout term time. There’s no need to try out – you can simply get a group together and register to take part, with sports including netball, hockey, football and basketball.
