A big part of why I chose the University of Birmingham is the campus. The greenery and red brick buildings make the campus a beautiful place to study and socialise, and it is easy to get to via the University's own train station! The Royal Society of Biology accreditation on my degree course also greatly influenced my decision to study here.

Work experience while doing your degree

Our overriding goal is to enable our graduates to embark on successful professional careers in the life sciences and beyond. The 'with Professional Placement' option is available with our Biological Sciences, Human Biology and Biochemistry programmes and is an obvious choice to significantly enhance employability.

Careers Network

The School of Biosciences Careers and Employability Coordinator and the University’s Careers Network are there to help you to improve your employability and to find the right career for you. Even if you are not yet sure what you want to do, an appointment with a Careers Advisor will help you to clarify the kind of direction you want to take, and provide a plan for how to get there. This service is available to you throughout your degree and beyond graduation. 

An extensive mentoring programme

The Careers Network Mentoring Scheme connects students and recent graduates with industry professionals who volunteer their time to share their experience and knowledge to support you with achieving your career aspirations.
