We also offer a range of activities to support school and college students who have an interest in particular subject. These can help engage pupils in their studies and enable them to discover more about studying particular subjects at university or following a professional career path.
The opportunities below are open to a variety of year groups, but most are only available to students who attend schools in the West Midlands region (Birmingham and the West Midlands county, Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Shropshire, Staffordshire and Herefordshire).
Medicine, dentistry, biomedical sciences and healthcare
Our College of Medical and Dental Sciences offer a number of programmes and activities to support students with an interest in these areas. These range from a 'Mini Medical School' to introduce students to studying medicine or healthcare subjects at university to work experience opportunities and subject masterclasses.
Our Routes to the Professions scheme for year 12s also supports students with an interest in studying Medicine or Dentistry.
Physical sciences, technology, engineering and maths
Our College of Engineering and Physical Sciences run a variety of events, taster days and residential experiences for pupils interested in STEM subjects.
The School of Physics and Astronomy organises additional activities and events for primary and secondary school pupils, and the general public. The School of Chemistry also provides a range of resources to support students and teachers involved with the subject. The School of Maths offers a range of events and opportunities to engage pupils, including the Popular Maths Lectures, work experiences opportunities and taster days. For pupils with an interest in maths or physics, our School of Civil Engineering offer opportunities for schools and colleges, including specialist talks and activities.
For students studying Biology, Chemistry or Physics at A-level, we have also developed a series of guides to support with practical assessments.
Arts and law
Our College of Arts and Law offer subject taster activities, masterclasses and study afternoons for sixth form students.
