Students' Union and societies

There is no better way to make friends than to really get involved in student life at Birmingham. The University offers a friendly and welcoming environment with a huge range of clubs and societies to be a part of, whatever your interests.

The Guild of Students is the University of Birmingham’s students union who play a valuable role in university life and helps students develop skills, have fun and make sure everyone gets the most out of their time at Birmingham.

The Guild is home to over 250 student groups, societies and associations, from activities and volunteering to media and music groups, there’s plenty of opportunities for all students at Birmingham, and if we’re missing a group; the Guild will help you to set up your own!

Almost all of our departments at Birmingham also offer the opportunity to join a departmental society or club. This is a great way to really get to know the people on your course, and engage in discussion about important issues and hear from fantastic guest speakers.

All of the University’s student groups and societies run a range of events throughout the year - from weekly meetings and socials to big formal events and competitions.

Remember, you can join as many groups as you like!
