Hispanic Studies has a wide range of expertise, including specialists in Iberian, Latin-American and Luso-Brasilian literature, history, linguistics and translation studies. We offer a core of wide-ranging foundation modules in literature, history, politics, linguistics and visual arts, as well as numerous specialist options on topics such as;

  • The Origins of Spanish Theatre
  • Society and politics in Contemporary Latin America
  • The Hispanic Caribbean
  • Urban Space and Identity in Barcelona

You are welcome to choose Portuguese or Catalan as your dedicated beginner language with no prior knowledge of Spanish. Furthermore, if you do not wish to take Portuguese or Catalan as your dedicated beginner language but you would still be interested in learning about one or both of these languages, it may be possible to take stand-alone modules in Portuguese and/or Catalan alongside your studies in other language(s), depending on your chosen combination.
