Research Methodologies in the History of Medicine

This module aims to:

  • introduce you to the nature of history and to historical method that determines how medical (and other) historians approach their subject
  • understand historical bias and interpretation and other problems that confront historians
  • examine the importance to historians of historiography, the act of writing history and the study and interpretation of the history of historical research and writing
  • study the specific sources and resources that are available to medical historians and how they are studied and interpreted, including archives, oral history and cultural history
