Exercise as Medicine

Programmes

Level

Year Three

20 Credits

This module examines how exercise can be used to enhance psychological and physiological health in different (clinical) populations. The module will focus on population related psychological and physiological aspects that need to be taken into account when designing and promoting a physical activity programme. The module will also discuss the associations and interactions between psychological and physiological benefits of exercise. Finally, the implementation of exercise as a treatment in the current health care system will be discussed. Scientific evidence will be critically evaluated in seminars and workshops. Guest lectures will be delivered by a patient describing their experiences of increasing physical activity as well as of the health professionals involved with exercise in clinical populations (e.g., cardiac rehabilitation).
