Level

Year One

This module will support students to develop their skills in science communication. Students will critically examine existing examples of effective and less effective practice, and use this insight to develop their own skills in writing and communicating about academic research. They will produce written, oral and graphic work and develop skills in self- and peer-assessment, as well as responding to feedback. The module will also include further training in plagiarism and referencing.

Students will be required to work in groups, and will receive training in groupwork skills and enterprising behaviours, attributes, and skills.

The module will be delivered by a combination of interactive lectures, smaller seminars, personal tutorials and online resources. Class time will be used to prepare for specific pieces of work, and students will produce their coursework via collaboration with their personal tutor. This will develop their awareness of the research environment as well as developing transferable skills.
