Birmingham is a modern and cosmopolitan city with a historic, industrial past. We are proud of our city, which is a pioneering, forward thinking and global place to live.
About our city
Birmingham is a truly diverse city with a rich cultural mix in both its permanent residents and student population. This cosmopolitan character is reflected in its restaurants, shops, cultural activities and places of worship. You will be able to find the food that suits your tastes in Birmingham’s many cafés and restaurants. If you feel like cooking for yourself and for friends, you can visit the large fruit, vegetable, fish and meat markets and Asian or European supermarkets, where you will find Halal and other specialist foods.
The city's newest cultural attraction is the state-of-the-art Library of Birmingham, one of the largest and most modern libraries in the world. Birmingham also has a regular number of live music and sporting events and is the host city for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
If you do want to explore beyond Birmingham, we have great transport links and are less than 90 minutes from London, only 30 minutes from an International Airport and just a few minutes from the beautiful English countryside.
