Dr Lee Gregory is a lecturer in Social Policy at the University of Birmingham. His academic journey began when he did a BTEC in Public Services, intending to go on to become a paramedic. However his interest was captured by the sociology and politics in the BTEC, and he was encouraged by his teachers to enter higher education.
He became the first in his family to gain a degree, at Cardiff University in Social Policy and Sociology, and then went on to work in the Welsh Assembly before taking up teaching posts at the Universities of Bristol and then Birmingham. His first book was called Trading Time: can exchange lead to social change? and he is currently working on his second.

“My story demonstrates that a BTEC qualification can be a foundation for a successful career in the academic world as well as careers more traditionally associated with particular BTECs.”
