The University of Birmingham has worked in conjunction with the British Heart Foundation since 2011.
In 2013 we launched a scheme called Junkbusters which uses a 1960’s milk float to collect donations on specified dates around the streets of Selly Oak during the student move out.
The scheme has grown from strength to strength with all of the donations going to The British Heart Foundation. Over the last five years the figures have seen increases year on year.
Junkbusters has been a key to the success in Birmingham with 412 bags collected in 2015 an increase of 147 bags. Both staff and students volunteered to ensure that the campaign was a big success.
Junkbusters has also won the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management Award for the Best Recycling Scheme in 2015 which Is a fantastic achievement to all involved in the project.
