Community Updates

Dear neighbours and student residents,

We understand that the building work at Pritchatts Park village can, at times, be disruptive and we want to do all we can to minimise any disruption. We appreciate that advance warning of any construction work is helpful for our neighbours and as such, this page will be updated regularly and will provide you with the latest update on the construction work, so you know what to expect and approximate timescales. Please check it regularly.

Terminology

  • On-site – refers to Pritchatts Park Village land
  • Off-site – refers to roads surrounding Pritchatts Park Village (Pritchatts Road, Vincent Drive, Brailsford Drive, Somerset Road)

Wednesday 7 September

  • Western Power Distribution (WPD) commenced their off-site works (in daytime hours) on the 30 August. This work is currently paused, we will update the website when we have further information. The work will be carried out on Somerset Road just prior to the junction with Farquhar Road. WPD engineers are anticipating working on the entrance to Pritchatts Park Village, they will be aiming to complete 30m sections at a time over the 873m route required.

  • Severn Trent Water has now completed works on Pritchatts Road (01/09/2022), the traffic management system has been removed (02/09/2022).
  • Weekend work will take place outside Pritchatts House on the 10 - 11 September. This will focus on finalising the tarmacking work that took place on the 3 – 4 September. The work will take place approximately 50m down Pritchatts Drive.
  • Severn Trent Water will be working on the new mains installation at the entrance to Pritchatts Park Village on the following weekends:
    • 24/25 September 2022
    • 1/2 October 2022
    • 8/9 October 2022.
  • Western Power Distribution - Working in days down Brailsford Drive commencing 03/10/2022 for a 10-day period (adjacent the NMR building on Brailsford Drive)
  • Western Power Distribution - Working on nights on Vincent Drive commencing 21/10/2022 for a six-week period. This council-approved work will be conducted at night to ensure all emergency vehicles continue to have access to the QE Hospital during the day.

Wednesday 14 September 

  • Welcoming new students: We will be welcoming our new students to Pritchatts Park Village on Monday 19 September. The University’s Welcome Week is from Saturday 17 – Friday 23 September. 
  • Western Power Distribution (WPD) commenced their off-site works (in daytime hours) on the 30 August. This work has currently paused, we are likely to receive an update on when it will resume by the end of this week. We will update the site when we know more. The work will be carried out on Somerset Road just prior to the junction with Farquhar Road. Friday 23 September

  • Coffee hour - We are arranging for a coffee hour with our Pritchatts Park Village construction team (Equans), Western Power Distribution and Severn Trent. More information will be available soon. 
  • Western Power Distribution (WPD) has re-commenced their off-site works. We have asked for an update about their working hours and when we know more, we will update this webpage. The work is being carried out on Somerset Road just prior to the junction with Farquhar Road. WPD engineers are anticipating working on the entrance to Pritchatts Park Village, they will be aiming to complete 30m sections at a time over the 873m route required.

  • Severn Trent Water will be working on the new mains installation at the entrance to Pritchatts Park Village on the following weekends (please note, this work will now start a weekend later than listed in the previous update):
    • 1/2 October 2022
    • 8/9 October 2022
    • 15/16 October 2022
  • Western Power Distribution - Working on Brailsford Drive commencing 03/10/2022 for a 10-day period (adjacent to the NMR building on Brailsford Drive)

Friday 30 September 

Weekend work summary for 1 and 2 October: 

There will be no impact on the primary Pritchatts Road route while this work takes place. The work will take place between the hours of 08:00 and 17:00 on both days, with no noisy works being undertaken outside of these time periods.

    • Western Power Distribution (WPD) will be working on the 1st October to accelerate works in order to alleviate traffic on Somerset Road and Farquhar Road

    • Severn Trent Water (STW) have planned to connect the mains on Pritchatts Road to site services on Pritchatts Village Drive, starting this weekend (1st and 2nd October).  This work will take place on Pritchatts Park Village.

      As this work would include noise from saw cutting, Equans has requested that STW conducts this on Friday afternoon instead of Saturday morning. 

      STW will also be conducting excavation works at the bell mouth of Pritchatts Village Drive on Saturday, involving the use of a digger, a dumper to excavate materials and a roller ahead of Sunday’s work. Reinstatement works will then take place on Sunday.

    • Tarmacing on Pritchatts Park Village will be undertaken by Central Power; they will be utilising a digger and dumper to remove the top layer of stone and road-plates that are currently installed to enable the tarmacing to be undertaken. Once the tarmacing is in situ they will be utilising a roller to level out/condense the tarmac.

    • The one-way system will be closed from the top of Pritchatts Village Drive across both days whilst Severn Trent Water undertake their works at this location with entry via Brailsford Drive. Equans will have traffic marshalls in attendance directing traffic as required.

Other updates: 

  • Coffee hour – We welcome you to join a coffee morning with teams from utilities companies, Pritchatts Park Village and the University of Birmingham on the 14 October, 11:00 -12:00. Location TBC, we will share further information via letter and email as soon as possible. Utilities companies will be present, so this is an opportunity to discuss recent work with Western Power Distribution (WPD) and Severn Trent Water (STW). 

  • Equans will be tarmacking the zebra crossing opposite the Equans site down to Ashcroft site on Pritchatts Park Village this weekend (30/09/22).Walkways will be maintained for student access. 

  • Western Power Distribution (WPD) will now be working on the following dates to accelerate works to alleviate traffic on Somerset Road and Farquhar Road. These dates are:
      • 01/10/2022
      • 08/10/2022
      • 15/10/2022
      • 22/10/2022 

  • Western Power Distribution (WPD) anticipate reaching the roundabout which joins Somerset Road to Pritchatts Road on the week starting 10/10/2022. They hope to be at the entrance to Pritchatts Village Drive on the week starting 17/10/2022. 

  • Western Power Distribution’s (WPD) plans to install an HV cable down Brailsford Drive, due to start on the week commencing 03/10/2022, have been delayed. New date TBC. Equans have requested WPD to provide a plan of the work effected by this installation so saw-cutting dates can be coordinated with an on-campus buildings and internal operations. 

  • Equans have requested traffic management plans from both WPD and MPB for the work on Vincent Drive. Once reviewed, these plans will be communicated to the community. 

  • Equans have also requested traffic management plans for the Section 278 works starting on 21/11/2022. Once reviewed, these plans will be communicated to the community. 

  • Severn Trent Water (STW) will be working over next three weekends at the one-way system entrance on the following weeks:
      • 01/10/2022 – 02/10/2022
      • 08/10/2022 – 09/10/2022
      • 15/10/2022 – 16/10/2022

Thursday 6 October

Weekend work summary for 8 and 9 October: 

There will be no impact on the primary Pritchatts Road route while this work takes place. The work will take place between the hours of 08:00 and 17:00 on both days, with no noisy works being undertaken outside of these time periods.

There are no new changes from the update that was circulated on Friday 30 September.  The following work is still in progress:  

    • Severn Trent Water (STW) continues to work on connecting the mains on Pritchatts Road to site services on Pritchatts Village Drive (Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 October). This work will take place on Pritchatts Park Village.

      The one-way system will be closed from the top of Pritchatts Village Drive across both days whilst Severn Trent Water undertake their works at this location with entry via Brailsford Drive. Equans will have traffic marshalls in attendance directing traffic as required.

    • Western Power Distribution (WPD) will be working on the 8th October to alleviate traffic on Somerset Road and Farquhar Road. 

    • Western Power Distribution (WPD) anticipate reaching the roundabout which joins Somerset Road to Pritchatts Road on the week starting 10/10/2022. They hope to be at the entrance to Pritchatts Village Drive on the week starting 17/10/2022.

    • Severn Trent Water (STW) is undertaking their final weekend of work on Pritchatts Village DriveThis work will take place on Pritchatts Park Village. All off-site work has been completed.  

      The one-way system will be closed from the top of Pritchatts Village Drive across both days whilst Severn Trent Water undertake their works at this location with entry via Brailsford Drive. Equans will have traffic marshalls in attendance directing traffic as required.

    • Western Power Distribution (WPD) have commenced works at the roundabout between Somerset Road and Pritchatts Road with the 4-way traffic lights in operation. The current date for completion on Pritchatts Road is 4 November.

    • Western Power Distribution (WPD) commenced works on Brailsford Drive, opposite the NMR building, on the 10 October. This is for a two week period and should conclude on the 24th October.

  • MPB will commence their works once Western Power Distribution complete their works on Vincent Drive (19 November). This will occur over a period of two weeks and is scheduled to begin on 21st November. Works include the installation of a new controlled pedestrian crossing. One side of the road will be closed for works in each week.

Thursday 20 October

Weekend work summary for 22 and 23 October:

The following work is still in progress and updated where applicable:

  • Equans are undertaking a crane lift on Pritchatts Village Drive for the Pritchatts House refurbishment on Saturday 22 October. Therefore, there will be limited access on Pritchatts Village Drive on this date.
  • Western Power Distribution (WPD) continue their works at the roundabout between Somerset Road and Pritchatts Road with the 4-way traffic lights in operation. They anticipate completing these works on the 24 October. The two-way traffic lights will then be in operation on Pritchatts Road. The current date for completion on Pritchatts Road is 4 November.
  • Western Power Distribution (WPD) continue their works on Brailsford Drive, opposite the NMR building. Due to delays, this is now scheduled for completion on the 28 October.

Other updates: 

  • Central Power (CP) are scheduled to complete the tarmac works on Pritchatts Village Drive on the 29 - 30 October, so there will be limited access to Pritchatts Village Drive on these dates.
  • Western Power Distribution (WPD) are scheduled to commence night works on Pritchatts Road and Vincent Drive for a two-week period, between the 7 November - 19 November. Noisy operations will be scheduled in the early evening, between 7pm-11pm. Every effort will be made to ensure these are completed by this time.
  • Mick Pat Boyle (MPB) are scheduled to commence the Section 278 works for the new controlled pedestrian crossing on Vincent Drive on the 21 November.
  • Severn Trent Water (STW) will undertake one final weekend of work to connect and chlorinate the new mains infrastructure. These dates will be communicated once known as it will impact the Bellmouth entrance to Pritchatts Village Drive.
  • Coffee hour - Thank you to all who attended our coffee morning with the teams from utilities companies, Pritchatts Park Village, and the University of Birmingham last Friday. Thursday 27 October

The following work is still in progress and updated where applicable:  

  • Western Power Distribution (WPD) hasexperienced delays in their work at the roundabout between Somerset Road and Pritchatts Road, due to a delayed delivery of anti-skid road plates. Works resumed on Wednesday 26 October and are expected to complete on Friday 28 October. The 4-way traffic lights at the roundabout will then be removed and the 2-way lights put into operation in preparation for the works on Pritchatts Road. The new completion date for this is to be confirmed, we will update the webpage when we know more.  
  • Severn Trent Water (STW) will undertake their final week of work to connect the new mains infrastructure on the 5 and 6 November. This will impact the Bellmouth entrance to Pritchatts Village Drive.
  • Western Power Distribution (WPD) has currently halted their works on Brailsford Drive opposite the NMR building. This work is now scheduled to recommence on Wednesday 2 November and is expected to complete on Wednesday 16 November.  
  • Central Power (CP) is scheduled to complete the tarmac works on Pritchatts Village Drive this weekend (29 – 30 October), so there will be limited access to Pritchatts Village Drive

The following work is still in progress and updated where applicable:  

  • Western Power Distribution (WPD) is continuing their works on Pritchatts Road. Their work at the roundabout between Somerset Road and Pritchatts Road with the 4-way traffic lights, was completed last week. The 2-way traffic lights are now in place and the overall works are expected to be completed over the 12 and 13 November. During this period:
          • One half of the road will be completed by the weekend of the 5 and 6 November. There will be some noise disruption (digging) on the morning of 5 November while work is carried out on the main carriageway outside of the entrance to Pritchatts Park Village.
          • The second part of the works by Somerset and Pritchatts Road are due to be completed by 11 November.

  • Western Power Distribution (WPD) recommenced their work on Brailsford Drive opposite the NMR building on Wednesday 2 November. They are expected to complete on Wednesday 16 November. 

  • Severn Trent Water (STW) will undertake their final week of work to connect the new mains infrastructure on the 5 and 6 November. This will impact the Bellmouth entrance to Pritchatts Village Drive. 

  • Community Evening – We welcome you to join the Equans and University of Birmingham teams at our next community evening event on Thursday 10 November at 18:00-19:30 in the Corelli & Lodge room at the Edgbaston Park Hotel.   • Mick Pat Boyle (MPB) will also have a delayed start for the Section 278 works on the new controlled pedestrian crossing on Vincent Drive. This is a result of the delayed works on Pritchatts Road. The new start date for this is yet to be confirmed, we will update the webpage when we know more. 

  • Community Tour – We welcome you join Equans and the University of Birmingham teams at a site progress tour of Pritchatts Park Village on Wednesday 23 November at 12:00-13:00. This will be a chance to observe the developments and progress of the construction site. No Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be required as the tour will not take place on the construction site due to health and safety reasons, but please bring comfortable walking shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. Friday 11 November

The following work is still in progress and updated where applicable:  

  • Western Power Distribution (WPD) is continuing their works on Pritchatts Road. They have completed the first half of the road and the road crossing to Pritchatts Village Drive. They are now continuing their works on the second part of the works which is by Somerset and Pritchatts Roads. This is scheduled to be completed this weekend, over the 12 and 13 November. Every effort will be made to ensure noisy works are carried out during appropriate hours over the weekend.

  • Western Power Distribution (WPD) is continuing their works on Brailsford Drive opposite the NMR building. They are now expected to complete on Friday 18 November.   

Other updates:  

  • Community evening – Thank you to all who attended our evening event with the University of Birmingham and Equans teams yesterday. We will continue to organise community events like this every six months, as well as site tours and other ad hoc events in the future.   • Western Power Distribution (WPD) completed their works on Brailsford Drive opposite the NMR building on Friday 18 November.
  • Western Power Distribution (WPD) have had a delayed start to the night works on Vincent Drive, originally scheduled between Monday 21 November – Friday 2 December. These works are now due to commence on Thursday 24 November. In regard to traffic management, it has been agreed with Birmingham City Council that the traffic lights and fencing will be removed each morning.
  • Community Tour – Due to adverse weather, the community tour scheduled on Wednesday 23 November was cancelled. We will reschedule this tour in the new year whilst continuing to organise the next community event, further site tours and other ad hoc events. Regarding traffic management, it has been agreed with Birmingham City Council that the traffic lights and fencing will be removed each morning. As a result, these works are anticipated to take longer than usual. These works are now expected to complete on Friday 9 December.
  • Mick Pat Boyle (MPB) will be installing low voltage, electrical ducts from the entrance of Pritchatts Park Village drive, through to the Gate at Ashcroft D, and to Pritchatts House refurbishment. During these works, the crossing at Pritchatts Village Drive will be closed. This will take place this weekend and will complete on Saturday 3 December.
  • Western Power Distribution (WPD) are expecting the new transformers which will serve Pritchatts New Townhouses and the MSCP car park to be delivered on Wednesday 7 December.

  • Western Power Distribution (WPD) has completed the nightworks on Vincent Drive. The final joint connections for energisation will be arranged for January 2023. Once the exact dates have been agreed with Birmingham City Council, we will issue an update.
  • Western Power Distribution (WPD) has experienced a delay in the delivery of transformers which will serve Pritchatts New Townhouses and the MSCP car park. These have been rescheduled and the new delivery date is Thursday 22 December.

  • Central Power (CP) has started works on the main pedestrian route to Oakley this week. The pedestrian walkway will be diverted through the University Medical Practice’s car park until Tuesday 10 January whilst these are completed.
  • Central Power (CP) will undertake works on Pritchatts Village Drive next weekend (Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 January) to install the new mains LV ductwork connections across the road to serve Pritchatts House. Therefore, Pritchatts Village Drive will be inaccessible during this time and traffic marshals will be in place to support diversions around Brailsford Drive. This work is expected to continue on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 January. This will also impact on the University Medical Practice’s car park, as ducting will need to be installed across the bell-mouth of the car park. EQUANS will be liaising with the University Medical Practice to advise on these works.
  • Western Power Distribution (WPD) / National Grid are currently scheduled to complete the joint connections work for Farquhar and Somerset Road on Monday 23 January, and the joint connections for Vincent Drive on Monday 30 January.

  • Central Power (CP) will undertake works this weekend (Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 January) to install the new mains LV (low voltage) ductwork connections on the bell-mouth entrance across from the University Medical Practice. No floor cutting will be involved to install this, as it is herringbone blockwork, so the blocks will be taken up individually prior to the trenches being dug and the ducting installed. The reinstatement of the blockwork will be undertaken over the weekend of Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 January. EQUANS will be liaising with the University Medical Practice to advise on these works.
  • Central Power (CP) will be installing new mains LV ductwork connections on Pritchatts Village Drive, to serve Pritchatts House Refurbishment, on Friday 21 January – Sunday 23 January. Pritchatts Village Drive will be inaccessible during this time and traffic marshals will be in place to support diversions around Brailsford Drive. There is a 4m section of road where floor cutting will be needed. This will take place on Friday afternoon, to reduce the amount of noisy works over the weekend. The trenches will be formed, the ducting laid, and the backfilling completed on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 January. Every effort will be made to ensure all noisy works are carried out during appropriate hours over the weekend.

  • Section 278 works- we will be putting in a traffic light pedestrian crossing system. These works will begin on Monday 13 February. All traffic management plans been agreed with the Birmingham City Council.

Other news

  • The 3/4-way lights located at the roundabout between Pritchatts Road and Richmond Hill Road are not a part of our development works. They are in place due to a burst water main. This has been fixed by Severn Trent Water, but will take a few more days to reinstate. They aim to have the traffic lights removed before the beginning of next week.

  • Mick Pat Boyle (MPB) were due to commence the 278 works on Vincent Drive, to install a new controlled pedestrian crossing, on Monday 13 February. However, this has been delayed and is now expected to start on Saturday 18 February. A traffic light and pedestrian crossing system will be put in place whilst these works are being carried out. All traffic management plans have been agreed with the Birmingham City Council. Once a completion date for these works has been confirmed, we will issue another update.

  • Western Power Distribution (WPD) / National Grid are continuing their works on the joint connections for Vincent Drive. The joint connection on Pritchatts Road near the roundabout has been completed and backfilled. The joint connection on Brailsford Drive has been completed but will be backfilled later this week. There will be live power at the new substation at Pritchatts Park Townhouses by the end of this week.
  • Severn Trent Water (STW) will be carrying out mains pressure testing on Pritchatts Village Drive this weekend, on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 February. Therefore, the one-way system on Pritchatts Village Drive will be closed for access during this time.
  • Mick Pat Boyle (MPB) commenced their 278 works on Vincent Drive, to install a new controlled pedestrian crossing, on Saturday 18 February. This week, these works are being carried out between 07.00 – 19.00 and the traffic lights are in 24/7 operation. From Monday 27 February, for two weeks, both these works and the traffic lights will be in operation between 09.00-15.00. Once an exact completion date for these works has been confirmed, we will issue another update. All traffic management plans have been agreed with Birmingham City Council.
  • Central Power (CP) will be installing generators at Oakley Court and Metchley playing fields across Friday 24 – Monday 27 February. Between 09.00-12.00 on both Friday 24 and Monday 27 February, the power will be down at these sites whilst the permanent power supplies at Ashcroft and Pritchatts New Townhouses are installed. Friday 3 March

Summary on Friday 3 March: 

  • Western Power Distribution (WPD) / National Grid have completed the joint connections on Vincent Drive but there has been a delay with the backfilling on Brailsford Drive. This will be completed later this month. There is now power at the new substation and there will be power at Pritchatts Park Townhouses later this month.
  • Severn Trent Water (STW) have experienced a delay and therefore were unable to carry out the mains pressure testing on Pritchatts Village Drive on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 February. Once the new date for this is confirmed, we will issue an update.
  • Mick Pat Boyle (MPB) are continuing their 278 works on Vincent Drive to install a new controlled pedestrian crossing. This week, these works are being carried out between 09.00-15.00, with traffic lights in operation during this time. These works were due to continue next week (Monday 5 – Friday 9 March) but cannot be completed until the anti-skid surfacing is done and the tarmac is laminated. These procedures are dependent on traffic lights being delivered, which will be in May. Once an exact date is confirmed, we will issue an update.
  • Central Power (CP) successfully installed generators at Oakley Court and Metchley playing fields last weekend. The power will be down again on Friday 3 and Monday 6 March, between 09.00-12.00, at Ashcroft New Build block while the permanent power supplies are installed. There will be no impact on local residents.

Friday 10 March

Summary on Friday 10 March: 

  • Western Power Distribution (WPD) / National Grid were due to complete the backfilling of the joint connections on Vincent Drive this week. However, due to the snow this has been postponed and will instead be completed next week.
  • Central Power (CP) have successfully supplied power to Block A of Ashcroft New Build. Power is expected to be available at Blocks B from Monday 13 March. Next week, low voltage power supplies will be implemented between Block C and D, from Oakley substation.
  • Severn Trent Water (STW) have rescheduled the mains pressure testing on Pritchatts Village Drive and this will now take place on Thursday 16 and Friday 17 March. This will mean that vehicles will need to enter the site from Vincent/Brailsford Drive. Equans will have traffic Marshalls and diversion signs in place over this two-day period.

  • Western Power Distribution (WPD) / National Grid are completing the joint connections on Vincent Drive this week. Backfilling was completed yesterday, Thursday 16 March, and the tarmacking is anticipated to be completed today, Friday 17 March.
  • Central Power (CP) have successfully supplied power to Block A of Ashcroft New Build. Power will be available in Block B on Tuesday 21 March.
  • Severn Trent Water (STW) are carrying out mains pressure testing this week, Thursday 16 and Friday 17 March. This will mean that vehicles will need to enter the site from Vincent/Brailsford Drive. Equans will have traffic marshals and diversion signs in place over this two-day period.

  • Western Power Distribution (WPD) / National Grid has completed the joint connections and backfilling on Vincent Drive. They will be reinstating some block paving around the substation this week and are anticipated to complete by Friday 24 March. During this time, the walkway will be inaccessible.
  • Mick Pat Boyle (MPB) completed the tarmacking of Pritchatts Village Drive last week.
  • Central Power (CP) successfully supplied power to Block B of Ashcroft New Build on Wednesday 22 March.
  • Severn Trent Water (STW) started the mains pressure testing last week, but due to a broken valve this could not be completed. STW will return on Thursday 23 and Friday 24 March to repair the broken valve and to complete the 4m joint connection at the top of Pritchatts Village Drive. They will then complete the mains pressure testing next week, on Thursday 30 and Friday 31 March. Again, during these works’ vehicles will enter the site from Vincent/Brailsford Drive. Equans will have traffic marshals and diversion signs in place over this two-day period.
