If you can't visit the Green Heart in person, you can experience the amazing space through our 360 experiences. We have captured key areas of the Green Heart in 360 to allow you to explore all the way from Old Joe, across to the Library and Arts Building, and up to the North Gate. You can see the full suite of Green Heart 360 videos on Roundme.

At the foot of the amphitheatre

The Green Heart will provide new and improved spaces for entertainment, socialising, meeting and studying. This will include a grass auditorium for unique performances and space for enlarged markets and events.

Outside the new café 

A stunning new café and bar, with outdoor terrace, will feature in the heart of the parkland. This new cafe and bar will be an exciting space on campus for staff, students and the local community to meet up for a bite to eat, or to have a relaxing drink while enjoying the stunning views.

Beside the Barbara Hepworth sculpture

Our University has a wealth of cultural assets and heritage collections. We have worked closely with experts to retain existing exhibits in the Green Heart and create space for new cultural pieces such as the University Crests from the former library.

At the south end of the new bridge

We have created new bridges and pathways in the Green Heart to allow pedestrians to access different parts of campus via various routes. All these routes will have wheelchair access. The parkland will also include new directional signage and information points.

In University Square 

As well as lush grass areas, wild flowers and native plants, we will plant 160 new trees and protect 144 existing trees. The Green Heart will also incorporate nesting sites to attract wildlife including bats, swifts and hedgehogs.

On the path above the new café 

We’ve developed zoned lighting which will incorporate energy-saving techniques to complement the natural environment, and keep campus safe and bright. The parkland will also incorporate energy generating paving and rain gardens.
