Drawn to books? Join us at the beautiful Winterbourne House and Garden for a talk and tour of our current exhibition.

The Birmingham School of Art, the first municipal art school in the country, opened in 1885, instructing students—notably women—in book binding and metalwork in addition to the more conventional subjects of painting and illustration. ‘Drawn to Books: Women Illustrators of the Birmingham School’ highlights the work of some of these women, whose artistry embraced Pre-Raphaelite designs and the Arts and Crafts ethos.

A brief talk from Rebecca Mitchell, an expert on the work, will introduce the exhibition, followed by a guided visit to unfold its magic. You are then free to explore Winterbourne House museum and the stunning grounds, and visit the Winterbourne Press where there is a unique opportunity to see historic printing presses in action.
