Ruth Gilligan discusses storytelling as a means of transcultural understanding.

In today’s multicultural world, fostering an understanding of cultures different to our own has become increasingly important. One powerful way to achieve this is by using storytelling to break down barriers and develop ‘radical empathy’. Gilligan is a bestselling author and Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing at the University of Birmingham. She is also an ambassador for the global not-for-profit Narrative 4.

Book to the Future

This event is part of Book to the Future - the University of Birmingham's annual festival of the written and spoken word. It features an exciting programme of free workshops, panel discussions, performances and author talks.

The festival is open to all who are interested in the arts. It welcomes staff and students of the University of Birmingham, but also extends a warm invitation to the general public. We look forward to welcoming you!
