Information regarding travel to the University of Birmingham can be found on the University’s ‘getting here’ page.

By Train

Most cross-country services to Birmingham arrive at Birmingham New Street Station. Up to six trains an hour depart for the University on the cross-city line (ten minutes to University station, final destination Longbridge or Redditch). The Centre of the main campus is a five-minute walk from University Station.

By Bus

Buses run frequently between Birmingham City Centre and the University of Birmingham campus. For further information, and to plan your journey, please visit the Network West Midlands website.

By Coach

There are frequent coach services to Birmingham from London, Heathrow and Gatwick Airports, and many UK cities. The long-distance coach station is in Digbeth in the city centre. From Digbeth it is a short walk to Birmingham New Street train station. Ask at the coach station for directions to Birmingham New Street and then either catch the local train service to University station or catch a bus as described above. By Car

  • Drivers approaching from the north west or south east along the M6:
    • Leave at Junction 6 (signposted Birmingham Central) to join the A38(M)
    • At the end of the motorway, keep to the right, go over a flyover, then through some underpasses to join the A38 Bristol Road
    • The University is on your right, two and a half miles from the city centre
  • Drivers approaching from the M42 north:
    • Leave at Junction 8 to join the M6 northbound and follow the instructions above
  • Drivers approaching from the south west:
    • Leave the M5 at Junction 4 signposted Birmingham SW) to join the A38
    • The University is approximately eight miles from the motorway
  • Drivers approaching from the M40:
    • It is easier to turn south on the M42 and leave at Junction 1, heading north on the A38 Bristol Road
    • The University is approximately eight miles from the motorway

Visitors to campus are requested to park in any of the three pay & display car parks. The locations are as follows:

  • North East Car Park (access via Pritchatts Road) Sat Nav Postcode B15 2SA
  • North Car Park (access via Pritchatts Rd) Sat Nav Postcode B15 2SB
  • Pritchatts Road Car Park (at the junction with Vincent Drive) Sat Nav Postcode B15 2QU
  • Pritchatts Park  (next car park along after Pritchatts Rd car park)  B15 2QX

Visitor charges in all locations above are:

  • Up to 1 hour £2.50
  • 1-3 hours £4.00
  • 3-5 hours £5.50
  • 5-8 hours £6.20
  • Up to 10 hours £7.00

Parking at the University of Birmingham is free of charge after 6.00pm Mon - Fri and is free all day at weekends.

Please be advised that enforcement procedures are in place in all University parking areas and penalty notices will be issued to all vehicles that fail to comply with parking regulations.

By Plane

Birmingham International Airport has direct flights from locations in the UK, as well as from the USA, Canada, Europe and the Middle East. The journey by taxi from the airport to the University takes approximately half an hour. Birmingham International railway station has frequent services to Birmingham New Street Station in the city centre (journey time around 15 minutes).

Please note: The committee will not be responsible for any travel to the University, between the University and your chosen accommodation venue or between the University and any other location. Any required travel should be booked directly with separate vendors.
