BSc Metallurgy and Materials, 1982 and PhD Metallurgy and Materials 1985
After graduating in 1985 with a PhD from the School of Metallurgy and Materials, I began a career researching in to III-V materials for semi-conductor lasers and detectors for optical fiber communications. Shortly after networking software and security software captured my attention. So I shifted away from materials and into cloud, security and virtualization computing technologies. After several years at global networking companies, helping to drive their international business I most recently landed at Marchex Inc. helping to drive their call analytics business. This is a new, fast growing area given the growing prevalence of mobile devices and companies wishing to optimize their marketing budgets and understand audience behavior. My PhD experiences have been very relevant in this business as we are constantly required to challenge old thinking and develop new and creative ways to drive business
