Models for Industrial Innovation
Recently retired Director of Research and Technology at Rolls-Royce and an Honorary Professor in Materials Engineering at the University of Birmingham, Professor Richard (Ric) Parker will be delivering the next talk in the University's 'Leading Thinkers' lecture series.
His talk titled 'Models for Industrial Innovation' will reflect on what makes innovation successful and the difference between invention and innovation. With his extensive knowledge, Ric will explore the various models and approaches for corporate innovation and the different companies that have successfully employed each of his models.
Ric Parker is an independent Special Advisor, working with various companies and institutions in the fields of technology strategy and technology transfer. Clients include, BP, Rolls-Royce, LG Fuel Cells and AStar, Singapore. He is the Chairman of the European Clean Sky research programme and President of the International Society for Air-Breathing Engines (ISABE).
Ric was appointed Director of Research & Technology, Rolls-Royce Group in January 2001 and retired in April 2016. He was responsible for direction and co-ordination of Research & Technology programmes across all the Rolls-Royce businesses, worldwide. Joining Rolls-Royce in 1978, Ric has held various posts including Chief of Composites and Ceramics, Chief of Compressor Engineering, Managing Director - Compressor Systems and Director of Engineering & Technology, Civil Aerospace. Ric gained a CBE for Services to Engineering in the 2013 New Year's Honours List. He was European CTO of the Year in 2014. In 2015 he was awarded the Royal Aeronautical Society Gold Medal. Ric is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society, a Fellow of the Institute of Physics and a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
Complimentary alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks will be served at the drinks reception following the event. Alcoholic drinks will be only be served to those who are aged 18 or over.
