Shaping the Future of Mobility

The Department of Civil Engineering is delighted to invite students, staff and members of the public to the annual Clark Lecture. The lecture is given in honour of Emeritus Professor Les Clark OBE, a former Head of School and a Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University and a past President of the IStructE.

This year, this annual high-profile lecture is being delivered by Professor Phil Blythe CEng, FIET, Chief Scientific Adviser for the Department for Transport and Professor of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) at Newcastle University. In his role at the DfT he provides a challenge function to the Department on the use of science and engineering evidence in policy making and also ensuring the Department is best informed on new innovations and technologies that may impact on the delivery of transport schemes. Phil’s portfolio covers many strategic areas such as intelligent transport, connected and autonomous vehicles, electro-mobility and smart cities/big data/IoT; however, increasingly energy and the decarbonisation of transport is at the forefront of his agenda.

Professor Blythe will be exploring the future of mobility. Please join us at 16:00 for the pre-lecture exhibition and stay for the post-lecture reception.

Complimentary food, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks will be served at the drinks reception following the event. Alcoholic drinks will be only be served to those who are aged 18 or over.
