The international, three-day Pint of Science festival will see thousands of scientists simultaneously bringing their research out of the lab to share with the public in over 300 cities across 24 countries. Founded seven years ago by two UK researchers, the festival brings a unique line up of talks, demonstrations and live experiments to the nation’s favourite locals. New for 2019 is the festival theme “What Next?” – we’ll be posing this critical question to researchers working across a huge range of scientific disciplines.

Birmingham researchers will be speaking at several pubs across the city, including Dig Brew, 1000 Trades and BOM (Birmingham Open Media). Tickets are available from the Pint of Science website, with each evening costing just £4. Attendees in Birmingham will enjoy a variety of exciting talks including:

“What’s the matter?” said the wave to the atom

Size Matters! A night on the nanoscale

It’s a new clear day! Nuclear science explored

The High-Energy Art Collider

Alongside the main talks, each evening will also include a range of fun, science-related activities including live experiments, science comedy, fun quizzes, geeky puzzles, engaging stories and other interactive activities.

Pint of Science was established seven years ago by a group of UK-based postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers. Festival founders Dr Praveen Paul and Dr Michael Motskin wanted to bring back the personal touch to science, giving everyone the chance to meet the real people behind the incredible research taking place across the globe.
