As a trustee on one of the trusts which support University of Birmingham scholarships, David Seccombe has played a very active role in supporting students to achieve their full potential. So when he decided to embark on a charity trek across the coast of North Wales, Computer Science student Kian Mistry, stepped in to return the favour. Here is what David had to say:

“Late last year I decided to do a fund raising walk for the Birmingham Children’s Hospital. To assist in my fund raising, I decided to set up a website and with my limited computer skills sought volunteer help from the University.

David Seccombe

Kian Mistry, a second year student of Computer Sciences, stepped forward to help, and I arranged a tour of the The Children’s Hospital for Kiran and my two fund raisers so they could understand the aims of my challenge. Although it wasn’t meant to be a shock tactic, we left pretty horrified by the conditions we saw, and this inspired us yet further, to raise vital funds.

Juggling the project with his studies, the web site www.theseaisontheright.co.uk has gradually evolved, linking to my Just Giving page, and is now being updated with a weekly report. During the walk, I will be emailing Kian a daily report and photos, which he will turn into a blog which tracks my progress, challenges and hopefully an amusing tale or two!

Really feel that this has been a great project for both of us, giving me a dedicated website to raise funds, whilst at the same time it is providing Kian with a great opportunity to demonstrate his IT talents to the outside world.

So please visit the site, learn what we are trying to achieve....and if you can, help us raise as much as we can for this very worthwhile cause.”
