This year has seen a huge increase in numbers within the Chemical Engineering department and given this, the importance of quickly and effectively integrating all of the students into the society has become even more important. This year's welcome dinner was therefore a key event. The event saw over 200 new undergraduate and postgraduate students assemble in the Avon Room for an evening of free food and drink. The evening provided an opportunity for the new students to get to know one another and start to forge the friendships which will have such a huge impact on their time at Birmingham. The event saw a continuation of the buddy scheme, whereby first years are assigned second year 'parents' who act as mentors during their first year within the department.

Overall the event was a great success with almost all of the new undergraduate and postgraduate students in attendance.
