CSS-WISE

Join us on 6 February 2016 for a Women in Technology event! We are currently organising the day as part of a joint enterprise by the Computer Science Society (CSS) and WISE (Women in Science and Engineering Society).

This conference-style event is aimed at female undergraduates at the University of Birmingham. We are looking to invite women currently working in industry to speak about their experience, as well as welcoming speakers from academia and other disciplines to give inspirational talks in a “TED” style manner. We want this day to be a celebration of women and we are looking forward to hearing all about the career choices women in technology have taken, as well as learning from their wide breadth of expertise. We will endeavour to provide networking opportunities throughout the day and potentially have some workshops that will be hosted around the core theme of the event.

We hope the talks will provide the students attending with a fascinating insight into various areas of life outside of university, for example what it is like to be part of a graduate scheme, becoming an entrepreneur, climbing the ladder in academia, and gaining a good work-life balance. Moreover, we expect the event to present a well-rounded view of a range of different career paths for women in technology.

If you are interested in supporting the event and/or participating, curious to learn more or have suggestions or advice, please contact us at eps-community@contacts.bham.ac.uk – we would love to hear from you!
