After a challenging year with significant design change UBRacing have beaten all expectations with their result at Formula Student UK.

Thousands of the world’s best young engineers headed to Silverstone on 8-12 July to compete at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers’ Formula Student competition.

Formula Student is the world’s largest student motorsport event and challenges student engineers to design, build and race a single seat racing car in one year. 2015 saw 135 teams from 28 countries as far afield as Australia, Turkey, Pakistan and Canada compete to build and race a single-seat car.

This year’s competition saw UBRacing achieve their best performance in their 18 year history. With a score of 670.3 points they placed 3rd out of the UK teams and 7th overall. A result which is even more impressive when comparing their car concept to the top six teams whose cars all present aero packages and carbon fibre monocoques.

UBRacing's car flew through scrutineering with the noise test (coming in at 16dB over regulation) the only issue. This was resolved without complication and had no major impact on the car’s functionality, enabling the team to concentrate on the other events. They scored a very respectable 16th palce overall in the Business Presentation and although the Cost and Design Events were not the most profitable in terms of points, the team performed to its full capability.

Saturday and Sunday were taken over by the dynamic events. All of the drivers set competitive times leaving some big rivals sat in the middle of the field. The Sprint Event saw the car pushed to its full potential setting a fantastic time but unfortunately the team were penalised for missing a cone. Next came the Endurance Event; worth double points, this was a key moment for the team. The car placed an incredible 3rd overall, collecting 292.4 of the 300 points available: a huge achievement beating some of the electric and the internal combustion engine cars.

The results achieved at Silverstone are not only impressive but unheard of amongst competitors with similar budgets and concepts. With a total score of 670.3 points UBracing are now placed 7th in the world and 3rd in the UK in Formula Student competitions. The full results for UBRacing at Formula Student 2015 were:
