UBRacing Update - November 2015
The last few weeks have been busy ones for UBRacing with our design review event and our presence at the Advanced Engineering show at the NEC in Birmingham, where the team was part of a special feature exhibit organised by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE). Here we had the chance to network with other teams competing in the Formula Student competition, visit our sponsors and explore new opportunities for support.
At the end of October we held our 2015 design review to assess the planned developments for this year’s car based on the constructive feedback of alumni and sponsors. Everyone in the core team was fortunate enough to receive insightful advice regarding their specific areas of the car and this will ensure that we maximise our potential for success competing in Formula Student 2016.
It was fantastic to see so many former members of the team returning to the review and we hope to continue seeing them year on year. UBRacing is fortunate enough to draw from a hugely talented pool of student engineers, which is only exemplified by the success and hard work of our alumni. In particular, the support of the latter to our current members helps develop their technical knowledge and ensure their future success. We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who attended the event.
With the review behind us, the team is finally ready to start the manufacturing phase, which opened in grand style in November with our Lead Chassis Engineer Andy Glencross laminating some test panels for our composite chassis, only one of this year’s ambitious projects. The team is focusing on the design of an aerodynamic package to improve cornering performance and carbon fibre rims to reduce rotational inertia and improve handling.
