Women in Science and Engineering Society - July 2015

Hello from WISE (Women in Science and Engineering) Society!

WISE celebrated the end of the academic year at the EPS Societies’ Awards where we were honoured to win the Head of College Idea of the Year Award. It truly was the icing on the cake in what has been a fantastic year for the Society. We kicked off with a bowling outing in autumn where our membership turnout meant we filled several lanes. Shortly after that Sukie Carmella Whitehall represented WISE at the Strictly Brum Dancing competition held by the Ballroom and Latin American Dance Society (BALADS) and won! Since then we’ve had a Christmas meal, run badminton sessions, hosted our immensely successful WISE Inspiration Day, elected a new committee with representatives from more diverse fields within science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) and run an industrial visit to the Manufacturing and Technology Centre (MTC).

Over the summer we will be planning another Inspiration Day, demonstrating the variety of roles within science and engineering and inspiring our members to achieve their full potential. We will also be organising more industrial visits and a publicity event to interest new members at the beginning of the next academic year, for which we are already in talks with staff in various departments.

If you are interested in supporting us or representing your field at one of our events, or you are simply curious to learn more, please contact us at eps-community@contacts.bham.ac.uk – we would love to hear from you!

Best wishes,

The WISE Committee
