Hello, everyone, and welcome to today's University of Birmingham application guide video.

This is for students applying for direct entry admission. For the purpose of today's brief video, we will be showing you how to complete the online application form for direct entry. This information is accurate for the 2024 application cycle and this information here is to show you an idea of what to expect when completing your application form.

If you have any issues or questions about completing the application please do contact us first and we will be happy to help you complete the application accurately. In the first instance you may be applying for a 2+2 programme or a 3+1 programme. Today, this video will show you how to complete the online application form. Before I begin I just want to point out that if you make any errors on your application, please do not worry and we can update your application from our website. Please do not make a second application.

So let's get started. Once you have received your application links from your home university. Choose the programme that you would like to apply for. Once you select the programme you will be redirected to the application portal, where you will need to log in user using your username and password.

If you are a new user there is also an option to set up your account. So please start by setting up your account using an email address and password. Once that is generated, you can then login back to the application portal using your username and password. When you're completing the Birmingham application you are required to complete a number of information pages. If the box is with the green tick, this means you have successfully completed the page; while if it's a red box with the cross, you need to go back and update the form.

The first on your application form is your personal details, which is very basic and straightforward. What you will need to do is fill in your basic details like, first name, surname, your date of birth, gender, country of birth, nationality. We expect that those who are applying for our direct entry have not previously applied, studied, or have been a member of staff at the University of Birmingham. So the answer to this question can be, no.

Once you have completed the first page you can save and move on to the next one on the second page is for the university's data collection information. So we like to ask you questions about. If you have a disability and how we can support you with your education. We also ask for further information as well, including your ethnicity, your religion and sexual orientation. If you wish not to disclose as information you can always select prefer not to say, meaning information refused. Save and continue and this will take you to the next page on this page you should select to enter your contact email address, since you have already logged into the portal using your email address. This should be automatically generated.

Please note that this is the email address where we will send you all your information about your Birmingham application including your offer letter. Just to let you know after having filling out the rest of the details, including address, city and country and also your contact phone number. The last section of this page is very important. What's really important for our direct entry students is this section here the agents and partner institutions are denoted and this is where you connect your Birmingham application to your home university.

We will ask you whether you're applying via Birmingham overseas representative or partner institution for students applying for direct entry. This will be yes and you should then go and find your university in the list in the alphabetic order. So for the time being, I am going to select the BIT which is a Chinese institution, Beijing Institute of Technology. You can choose your own home university, once that is done we move to the next page.

The next section is about your education and what you have studied before applying for Birmingham on this page. First of all you should find the country of your current university and then you can also input your college institution or university name in the second line. Please also input your qualification and the subject that you have studied. You can now input the dates that you have attended the universities from we understand that the attended to year might be, may happen after you have transferred to the University. So please enter your expected completion, date, year, and date as well. Going forward in the documents section. This is where you can upload your transcripts from your home university. By using this button here, you can upload your academic documents.

If you are unable to upload this document when you apply, you can always upload it later. Going forward, this is the section where you will have to complete your English language qualifications such as IELTS or TOEFL. For the purpose of this application I have entered some information for your reference, so I have selected I'm a Mandarin speaker and I have not studied English in my home university. For all our direct entry applications you should be selecting no. Here again, this section is also going to be no going down.

If you have an English language qualification when you apply you should select yes here, then select the type of English language qualification that you have. Many of our students will have IELTS or TOEFL, but some students from Malaysia or India may be applying with their high school English grades. So please complete the information which is relevant to your English language, qualification and upload the certificates of your English language. If you are still waiting for your English language qualification you can still apply and then upload your English language qualification after your test. After completing this section, let's move on to the next page.

The next section is about your professional or work experience. This is not a requirement for our direct entry applications. So if you would like to upload a CV or resume, you still can do that but it's not an essential requirement. We do not consider work experience for direct entry applications, but if you want to disclose any information, feel free to do so, you can also upload any kind of professional or other qualifications in this section we now save and continue to proceed with the next.

The next section is your passport, which is essential for all international students, and, of course, for using your passport when you apply for the visa. So we expect nearly all of our overseas students to require a visa to study in the UK. So please select yes to indicate that you will need a visa to study in the UK. Also please indicate from which country are you planning to apply for your visa to study in the UK. Followed by your passport number and other relevant details, such as date of issue, date of expiry, and the country of issue. You should also then upload your passport information pages in the form of a photograph.

The next question is about your previous study in the UK. Have you previously studied in the UK at degree level or university level or higher - we expect that for all our students applying for direct entry, this will be no. However, if you have studied in the UK before please answer the relevant information requested here. We can now move on to the next page, the next page is about submitting your references and your reference details. Please upload your references. If your referee has given you a copy, for that option you can select yes, and then upload the reference copy. However, if you select no you will need to fill in the details about the type of reference, the title and other details as requested below the reference type can be academic or professional. Please note that the University of Birmingham reserves a right to contact the referee independently. To verify this information you also have an option to upload a second reference.

We do not require anything on this page, so you can save and continue. The final page is your submission confirmation page. On this page, you should read about our data protection statement as well as read through the declaration part. If you're happy with everything you can proceed to submitting your application.

Please ensure that you have ticked both these boxes, one on the Data Protection statement and the Declaration tick box before hitting the submit button. Once you have submitted your application, you will receive a confirmation email to confirm that we have received your application. We look to process applications as soon as possible, and the member of the University of Birmingham team will be in touch with you if we need any further documentation.

If you have any questions about the application, or you would like to request any updates, please use our university of Birmingham's EPS International contact email address, and we'll contact you within a few working days. After you have submitted your application, you can always look back into the application portal to further upload any documents. For example, your new passport, or your new transcript, or even your new English language qualification. You can also use this feature to look at your Birmingham of a letter when issued.
