EPS direct entry application process

The application process is designed to be simple and easy for you. You will be able to apply directly to Birmingham via the link provided by your home university.

Applications for 2023 entry will be open in Fall 2022 and we encourage students to make their applications by Spring 2023 so that there is sufficient time for admission processing, visa applications and securing accommodation. We may however, be able to accept late applications subject to available programme places. Please contact us if you are planning to submit a late application.

How to apply

  • To apply, you'll need to make an application online - your home university can provide you with the relevant link.
  • See a list of documents required as part of the application below. Please do not worry if you do not have some of the documents available at the time you make the application - you will be able to upload these to the system at a later date.
  • See our video guide to completing the online application. The video will provide step-by-step guidance and useful hints and tips about the process.
  • Please also see below, our frequently asked questions section.

Documents required

The following documents need to be uploaded as part of your online application:

  • Passport information page(s) (if available at time of application)
  • Evidence of English Language, eg IELTS (if available at time of application)
  • Most recent academic transcripts – and certified translations*
  • List of subjects being studied in your current semester (in English)
  • Some students may require an ATAS certificate. This is usually if you’re going to study an MSci/MEng (4 year) programme. Important: Be very careful in completing the information for your ATAS as errors will result in having to submit a new ATAS request and will cause delays in our admissions team issuing unconditional offers and a CAS.

*In some cases, for authenticity purposes, your home university may be asked to upload your final transcripts to your application portal. You will be asked to sign a data consent form to allow them to do this.

Important: You must ensure that your application, IELTS and all other documentation is presented with your name exactly as per your passport. Please contact the International Office/International Affairs Office at your university if you would like them to check this prior to submitting your application.

What next?

Once you have submitted your application, our admissions team will aim to be in touch with an update on the progress of your application as soon as possible.

Whilst you wait for an application update it is a good idea to:

  • Book and prepare for your English Language test and keep practising!
  • Prepare for your visa application
  • Investigate your accommodation options
  • Read our information pages for details on travelling to the UK, arrivals weekend, paying tuition fees  and much more.

Once you have met all the conditions of your offer, you will receive an unconditional offer and will be eligible for a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) which will be required as part of your visa application.

Frequently asked questions

What if I do not have all the documents available when I submit my application?

We understand that you may not have all the admissions documents available immediately. We encourage you to continue to make an application via the online admissions portal (your university will provide you with the link to this) and you can then access and upload documents to your application as and when these become available.

What is the latest date I can take my English test?

We suggest you take your English test as soon as you are prepared for this and no later than the end of June. This should allow time for results release and processing visa applications.

My English does not meet the requirements, what can I do?

The University offers English pre-sessional programmes for students who have conditional offers as an alternative to retaking and IELTS test. There are various course durations available which have different entry requirements and course fees.

When and how can I apply for accommodation?

You can apply for accommodation online as soon as you have received your conditional offer. Apply by 31st July to ensure you are under the undergraduate guarantee scheme.

Do I need ATAS? And if I do, how do I apply?

Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) certificates are required for some MSci and MEng undergraduate programmes. If it is a requirement for your programme, this will be stated in your offer letter. ATAS certificates are issued by the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and it is recommended that you apply as soon as possible, being very careful to enter all details correctly to prevent any delays. Further information can be found on our ATAS web-pages.

Is there an admissions interview?

We do not currently require an interview for a direct entry programme.
