Why did you apply to the University of Birmingham?

The University of Birmingham has a great worldwide reputation and was a natural choice for me. The beautiful scenery of the campus itself is an ideal choice for enjoying university life. Located in the second city, there are many opportunities, both inside and outside the university. The city continues to grow and develop which attracts people from all walks of life.

What are the best points of your course?

The best points of my course are having chance to work in teams and individually to engineer appropriate and creative design solutions which allows me to extend my technical understanding and learn how to apply my knowledge and creativity to solving engineering problems. I was able to study key concepts and theories which are discussed and used in my job day to day.

What’s the best thing about studying at the University of Birmingham?

Birmingham is a research university, so what you learn in class is relevant to what is happening in the world of Civil Engineering. You don't learn dead engineering theories because Birmingham wants you to have the skills needed for employment. This means what you learn within the course is directly applicable to life outside of university. As a student you feel more comfortable applying to jobs and feel secure in the relevance of the knowledge you receive within class.

What’s your highlight of your time at the University?

Joining the university basketball team has contributed majorly to the fond memories I shall retain from my time at Birmingham. Sports clubs are a must no matter what you are into or if you just want to try something new and to socialise. I know I will have friends for life through the club which also allowed me to develop confidence which no doubt will benefit me in my future workplace.

What advice would you give to other international students?

I would advise all other students to just be yourself and follow your instinct. People are very helpful here and so, you will definitely find your own way. Go out. Meet people. Enjoy it!

What do you like most about the city?

I like the multiculturalism of Birmingham. I have had a lot of chances to meet people from different countries and a range of nationalities.

How do you feel you have benefitted from the experience of studying in the UK?

Studying aboard in the UK really brings out my independent nature and has also enhanced my ability to adapt to diverse situations while being able to problem solve.
